Review! Chalet at The Chimney House
Posted 3rd February, 2020It's been a while since we hosted a Supper Club at The Chimney House - and we wanted to start the year as we mean to go on - with a series of HOUSE events planned for 2020.
Hello House
Named so as our HOUSE story is around the exciting happenings that go on inside interesting dwellings or structures that one might happen across on a little adventure...
The Chimney House to Host
HOUSE will always be hosted at The Chimney House with smaller numbers - in contrast to FEAST hosted in larger numbers over the road at The Mowbray. There's always something to learn at a HOUSE event - so you'll come away feeling enriched and knowledgeable from the wisdom of others!
Drink Up
HOUSE vibe is all about the creme de la creme of wine or drinks tasting from boutique merchants and specialists doing great stuff in small batches. What appears in the glass will be expertly supported by The Mowbray Kitchen presenting seasonal excellence - spreading our wings to bring you the freshest tastes around...
CHALET
Our first HOUSE visit took us through the snowy pine forest up the mountain to a sublime little CHALET brimful cosy of apres ski revellers - just about to sit down to a jovial candlelight supper....
We had a full house on Saturday 1st of February with a wonderful crowd who joined us for a cosy evening with Barry from Starmore Boss - heading up a sublime wine tasting - with six of the best bottles from Alsace & Germany. Supper was a grand selection of Chalet favs - guests were treated to true tastes and plentitude from the slopes.
We decided to go big with an extended 'starter' course and taste 4 wines before we settled down to the serious business of Chouxcroute Garni. Barry pulled out an absolute delight to matched with a double pud hit.

An aromatic, lively Riesling with green apple, hints of lemon grass, ginger and stone fruits on the tongue. Dry on the palate and develops once opened in the glass!
Kalkstein Riesling // PFALZ
Grapes are pressed lightly and held in stainless steel to retain fresher notes and allow the wine to develop the classic aromas and tastes. Crisp on opening followed by light stone fruit characters.
Cave de Turkheim Pinot Noir (Organic) // ALSACE
Bright and fresh on the nose and full of crunchy red berries on the tongue with just a hint of smoke in the background. The raspberry note shines through after opening for a minute or two!
